What’s Your Calligraphy Version of a Comfort Show?

Resharing from my email newsletter, Curious Letters

You know how there are shows or movies you keep rewatching?

The ones you turn to when you’re feeling tired or stressed.

The ones that feel familiar and comforting to help you unwind after a long day.

What’s your calligraphy version?

For me, it’s the Rhodia x PAScribe pad in grey paired with metallic paints from @thecreativekinds.

My script usually turns out decent using this pad, which is a great confidence booster. Metallic and sparkly paints make everything pretty, so that’s a nice bonus.

I go through the alphabet, writing words that start with the letters A all the way to Z.

I’ll write the first word that comes to mind, so I’m not thinking too much about what I’m writing.

The focus is simply on putting pen to paper, letting the ink flow and forming each stroke.

It’s easy. It’s simple. It’s comforting.

In my calligraphy practice, I’ve realised how helpful it is to have something like this.

You may already have your own version of this.

Maybe it’s a familiar script, certain words, or specific tools that you tend to reach for.

Or maybe you haven’t quite identified it yet — it might be worth noticing and naming it.

  • What do you tend to reach for on low energy days?

  • What brings a small sense of joy while you’re doing it?

  • What leaves you walking away fulfilled and calm?

Because once you identify and name it, it becomes part of your toolkit.

Something you can pull out when you don’t have the energy to think or do more.

Something familiar and comforting that you can return to, again and again.

P/S I have a free PDF with lists of words from A to Z that you can use immediately for your practice. Get a copy here!
