What Nib to Try After a G Nib?

My recommendations for beginner, intermediate and advanced pointed pen nibs.

G nibs are widely recommended for beginners, and for good reason.

But a less discussed question, and one that I’ve been asked, is β€” what nib to try after a G nib?

So in this email, I’m sharing my recommendations for beginner, intermediate and advanced nibs.

Do you have to be an advanced calligrapher to use an advanced nib?

Of course not!

The categories are simply to help you understand the nature of the nibs, and which nibs may require more technical finesse.

But it’s perfectly fine to jump around and have fun with different nibs.

You may find that your grip and style of writing naturally lends to what I consider an advanced nib, so why not jump ahead?

Having said all that, I find nibs are quite hard to recommend.

Different calligraphers can love and hate a nib for the same reason.

So take my recommendations with a grain of salt.

Focus on which nib feels right to you!
